" Originally the Urlicht was a piano song from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn", in the later use of the 4th movement of his 2nd Symphony, composed by an alto soloist. In terms of content, the focus is on man and the struggle for eternal life. In the face of suffering in the world, the longing for heaven matures in him. The rejection by an angel cannot lead him away from his chosen path ("I am from God and want to return to God") until he finally finds peace by trusting in the eternally shining light of life. The attraction of the vocal arrangement lies in the way in which a simple songlike performance and orchestral effect are brought together in the "instrument" choir.
