La composition est écrite dans un style romantique et évocateur, et elle peut être considérée comme un exercice de style pour l’opéra grandios Rossini woonde al zo’n vier jaar in Frankrijk, toen hij in 1828 zijn Rendez-vous de Chasse schreef. Het is gecomponeerd in een romantische en beeldende manier en kan beschouwd worden als een soort van stijloefening voor een machtige opera Guillaume Tell,
