Additional info/contents
The 6/8 march to American national motifs is exciting and stirring. It would be interesting to contrast this march with the well-known Sousa march in a concert.

Programme notes:
The
World's Columbian Exposition 1893
(also called "The Chicago World's Fair") was a world exhibition held in Chicago from May 1 to October 30, 1893, the nineteenth of its kind. The exhibition marked the four hundredth anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America. Due to the short preparation time, the construction work begun in September 1891 for the opening ceremony on October 21, 1892 was not completed. The official opening could therefore only take place in 1893, one year after the anniversary.
In 1885 Ziehrer received the post of Kapellmeister of the famous K.u.k. Infantry Regiment Hoch- und Deutschmeister No. 4, after the unexpected death of Heinrich Strobl (1839-1885), who had been appointed in the same year. Thus he also gained recognition in Vienna, where the Strauss era was coming to an end. Carl Michael Ziehrer gave concerts throughout Europe and also in 1893 in Chicago within the framework of the World Exhibition, on the occasion of which he composed the "Star Banner March".
