Additional info/contents	With the titles for his compositions, Starke naturally oriented himself to the spirit of the times. For example, the march "Auf nach China" is undoubtedly reminiscent of the time of the so-called Boxer Uprising, whereas "Im Schützenfeuer" was composed during the First World War. Strongest and most extensive work, the tone painting "Der Naturfreund", was distributed by two publishers before 1893 and comprised a total of 20 movements or "pictures". In Germany his beautiful march "With Sword and Lance" (also: "Mit Schwert und Lanze") basically did not become native, but under the English title "With Sword and Lance" it became a world march. With it Hermann Starke won first prize in the famous international marching competition of the London publisher Boosey & Son in 1900.
