Additional info/contents	Ave Maria by "Bach/Gounod", actually Méditation sur le premier Prélude de J. S. Bach, is a composition by Charles Gounod for voice (or a melody instrument) and piano using the Prelude in C major from Part 1 of the Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach as well as the text of Ave Maria, and one of the most famous pieces of classical music. Gounod composed the piece in 1852 as an improvisation exercise during his studies. In 1859, it was set to the text of the Latin prayer Ave Maria. The work still enjoys great popularity today and is often used as the musical accompaniment to festive occasions. Alongside Schubert's version, Bach/Gounod's Ave Maria has become a fixture at funerals and wedding masses. In addition to the original version for piano and vocal part, numerous arrangements for practically every conceivable combination of instruments and also solo instruments have been created in the meantime.
