Additional info/contents This suite follows on from "Cossack Folk Dances", completing the pair, and ideally the two should be performed together. The fascination of Cossack folklore lies in particular in its brilliant dances and the melancholic longing of its tunes. The character and structure of these dances has been kept faithful to the original as much as possible. This arrangement for wind orchestra has bestowed on these melodies a symphonic nature, making them particularly attractive for performances in concert halls. The composer has had the chance to get to know Cossack folklore during his travels. The skill of their equestrian games and of those using sabres and knives, along with striking and charming music performed by balalaika, wind and accordion orchestras, have made a deep impression on the composer's imagination and encouraged him to reproduce these magic atmospheres in his music.
