Additional info/contents	Dukas' work "L'Apprenti sorcier", which was first performed in 1897 and is based on Goethe's ballad, combines programmatic elements with orchestral virtuosity and has had a significant influence on orchestral literature. Although Mortimer's arrangement retains the basic structure of the original, both versions show differences in texture and tonal realization. Dukas uses a varied instrumentation with strings, while Mortimer takes advantage of the specific characteristics of the wind orchestra and places particular emphasis on the clarity of the woodwinds.
