Programme notes: The ice cave "Eisriesenwelt" is a cave labyrinth which is more than 40 kilometres long. As with all the caves, the creation took a long time. The first gaps and fissures in the limestone rocks already formed as a result of mountain uplift about 100 million years ago and were enlarged and formed by chemical dissolution processes and water erosion over millenniums.
