Programme notes: Hans Arno Simon is a storyteller rich in imagery. The land awakens, as it were, in the rising morning sun. Slowly and contemplatively, the perspective opens up, the landscape gains breadth and size. Busy hustle and bustle is prepared with a brass fanfare and driven forward full of moving melody. It is powerful liveliness, captured in harmonic soundscapes. But in the countryside, one still finds time to pause, to reflect, to pay attention to the small beauties, which is expressed in a playful theme intoned by the woodwind register, which is shaped in the entire orchestra and led in dance-like gaiety and light-heartedness. Landscape and people motivate a dancing joie de vivre. But finding peace and reflection are not neglected either, whatever image one might imagine for this. But soon the dance element wins again, and creates a comfortably moving theme, which increases to rousing power and liveliness. Rhythmically accentuated passages open up a different perspective, but these sound images also radiate optimism and joie de vivre, and it is in this atmosphere that the multifaceted work comes to an end.
