Programme notes: Johann Petzold (also written as Johann Petzel) was a German composer and organist who lived from 1650 to 1709. He is known for his music for keyboard instruments, especially his suites and dances for keyboard instruments. One of his notable compositions is the "Intrade No. 21" from his collection "Einige Clavier-Stücke" (Some Keyboard Pieces). This collection contains a number of short pieces, including dances, preludes and other character pieces typical of the Baroque period. "Intrade" refers to an "intrada", a term used in music to describe a short, introductory piece often played at the beginning of a larger work or as a stand-alone piece.
