Programme notes: additional text

Mobility has changed constantly over the centuries. Man first walked the distance A - B, later on the farm animal such as horse or camel, then in a more comfortable carriage.
In the course of industrialisation, new opportunities arose again on land: Steam engines, bicycles, automobiles... As the population increases, each and every one of us wants to take advantage of the revolutionary conditions of our progressive society. While in the 19th century a journey from Innsbruck to Dornbirn was still considered an adventure, today this route is taken for granted by commuters and day-trippers over the Arlberg.
However, problems also arise from our individuality. While roads have become safer and safer for robbers and highwaymen, the increase in road usability has had a negative impact in that accidents and pollution have increased dramatically.
The only remedy for this is public transport by rail, tram and bus, which simultaneously reduces the volume of traffic and reduces the burden on the environment.
