Additional info/contents	‘Maniac’ is a song by American musician Michael Sembello, written in collaboration with Dennis Matkosky, and best known for its inclusion in the soundtrack of the 1983 film Flashdance. Originally intended as a song with dark humour, inspired by a television report about a serial killer and the 1980 horror film Maniac, the song was later rewritten with new lyrics at the request of Flashdance director Adrian Lyne and music producer Phil Ramone, to better fit the film’s story about the intense training and ambition of a young dancer. The revised version featured prominently in a key scene in the film during the main character’s home workout. Following the unexpected commercial success of Flashdance, Paramount Pictures produced a music video for ‘Maniac’ featuring scenes from the film, which premiered on MTV in May 1983. Due to the frequent broadcasts of the video, the single reached number one in the charts. Frank Bernaerts wrote a rhythmic and dynamic arrangement of this super hit. (he)
