Artists from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and later also from South Tyrol took part in this competition, which was broadcast by the public broadcasters of the respective countries. The German jazz and entertainment musician, producer and composer Erich Becht (*1926) became known above all for his pop compositions, some of which were created using pseudonyms. He wrote for famous artists like Bill Ramsey, Heino, Maria and Margot Hellwig as well as for Marianne and Michael. Erich Becht wrote many melodies, which became unforgettable hits like "So schön ist Volksmusik". Martin Scharnagl worked on this catchy title melody for brass orchestra and chose the title "So schön ist Blasmusik" as a symbol for the connection between folk and brass music.
