Additional info/contents Sir William Walton composed many fine film scores, most notably for Olivier's Shakespeare productions. In 1942 he was commissioned to write the music for The First of the Few, a film which told the story of the designer of the Spitfire, R.J. Mitchell. The composer later adapted music from this score for the concert hall, producing the Spitfire Prelude and Fugue. The Prelude begins with a sonorous fanfare and unfolds with a broad theme in the style Walton made his own in the two Coronation Marches, Crow Imperial (1937) and Orb and Sceptre (1953).
