Additional info/contents	"The Way to Heaven" was commissioned by the Royal Air Force Music Services. 2015 marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which took place from July to October 1940. The brave fighter pilots of the Royal Air Force had prevented Hitler's ambitions to invade England. The Way to Heaven begins with a restless figure in the woodwinds and brass fanfares that build to a climax before a key change introduces a brief reference to the Polish national anthem “Mazurek Dbrowskiego”. This slowly fades away and you hear the signal to fight and the roar of the squadrons' Merlin engines coming to life and lining up before takeoff. This leads to the main theme of the work, which describes Squadron 303's flight into the sky to intercept the oncoming Messerschmidt 109s. The Polish national anthem sounds briefly again before the piece ends with a triumphant conclusion.
