Additional info/contents "The Moonlight Sonata" - the first movement from Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Opus 27/2 - is by far Ludwig van Beethoven's best-known work. It has been arranged for a wide variety of instrumentations, recorded countless times and used in many films as characteristic, pictorial music with great recognition value. The present arrangement was written by the American composer and arranger James L. Hosay and is for solo flugelhorn and wind orchestra. In order to adapt as well as possible to the conditions of the wind orchestra, Hosay has changed the original key of C-sharp minor to D minor. In addition, he has added isolated dynamic developments to the music, which bring out the great tonal and dynamic possibilities of the wind orchestra even better.
"The Moonlight Sonata" reveals the vast genius of the composer, who was 31 years old at the time of its completion, despite or perhaps because of its delicate simplicity. The music carries pain, despair, love, sadness and longing, as Beethoven makes them audible in all his works. A beautifully delicate melody, coupled with a sophisticated harmonic progression, makes this music unique and reveals why the Moonlight Sonata has become a true milestone in music history.
