Additional info/contents Dunkirk is a French town that served as a hub for the Allied military offensive between May and June 1940. It was called Operation Dynamo and consisted of the evacuation of Allied troops who had been encircled by the German Nazi army during the Battle of Dunkirk in the full invasion of France. Almost the entire British Expeditionary Force, part of the Belgian Army and three units of the French Army had to evacuate the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk before the German offensive. Despite the bombardments and encirclement by the German military, they managed to save more than 300,000 soldiers.

José Alberto Pina has tried to recreate the most dramatic moments of this operation. The composition is divided into small sections. It begins with the ''Prologue'', in which the main theme of Dunkirk appears, followed by ''The pier, the beach'', in which the long wait engulfs the soldiers. In ''The bombers'' you hear the planes coming closer and closer to destroy the lives of the soldiers in their dive. "''The spirit of Dunkirk'' is a term used in the British press to refer to the solidarity of the British people, who played an important role by approaching the beach in small boats and helping to ferry the soldiers. "''The Failed Evacuation'' refers to how the soldiers tried to climb the big ships to save themselves, but the bombers sank the ships and many soldiers died.

In ''The Hymn'', the melody from the beginning of the work is heard again on the trumpet, which now unfolds throughout the orchestra with great lyricism and nobility, to end with ''The Successful Evacuation'', where the entire orchestra, together with the percussion, will bring a spectacular conclusion to this fantastic composition by José Alberto Pina.
