Additional info/contents	In 1999, American singer-songwriter Stephin Merritt released his song "The Book of Love" on the CD *69 Love Songs*. In the almost spartan original version, Merritt's raw vocals are accompanied only by a guitar. English singer Peter Gabriel became familiar with the song through a joint performance with Merritt's band in London and subsequently included it on the soundtrack to the film *Shall We Dance?*. Gabriel's version is considerably more opulent and orchestrated; in this guise, the song gained greater popularity, not least due to a new CD release by Gabriel in 2010. Martin Scharnagl now arranges this well-known version for a brass sextet. The arranger has chosen to retain the original key of A-flat major, which is well-suited to brass instruments. The romantic intimacy of the string-dominated orchestral sound of Gabriel's version is by no means lost, but – on the contrary – is complemented by further facets. (© Rundel Musikverlag) Partitur 1.
