Programme notes: additional text

The concert march "The Regimental Children" is one of the best-known works by the Czech composer Julius Fucik. Composed in Budapest in 1905, this march is an energetic piece that captivates listeners with its melodic beauty and infectious rhythm. Julius Fucik was born in Prague on 18 July 1872 and was a well-known composer and conductor. During his career he composed a variety of works, including marches, polkas and waltzes. "The Regimental Children" was composed as a tribute to the Hungarian Infantry Regiment No. 84. Fucik dedicated this march to the young members of the regiment, the so-called "regimental children".

"The Regimental Children" is a characteristic concert march that displays the typical features of this genre. The piece begins with a powerful introduction, followed by a catchy and rousing main theme performed by various instrumental groups of the wind orchestra. Fucik cleverly uses dynamic contrasts to build tension and drive the musical development. The march is characterised by its dance-like character and cheerful mood. The melodies are catchy and easy to remember, which helps the piece to quickly find favour with the audience. Fucik uses a varied instrumentation and ensures a sonorous and powerful performance of the march. The piece is a staple of the brass band repertoire and underlines the importance of Fucik as a talented composer. "The Regimental Children" remains a timeless work that embodies the enthusiasm and sense of pride in the world of wind music.
