| Definition/synonyms |
The kalimba (mbira) belongs to the lamellaphone family, and originates from Africa. They consist of a wooden board (often fitted with a soundbox) with offset metal prongs attached to it, which are played by holding the instrument in the hands and plucking the prongs with the thumbs (at least), the right index finger (most mbira) and sometimes the left index finger. |
