Additional info/contents This symphony is the most important work to date by Spanish composer Teo Aparicio-Barberán. It was first performed at the 2002 Ciudad de Valencia International Brass Band Competition, one of the most important competitions of its kind in Europe. In the three-movement piece, the composer uses a modern language and combines melodious instrumentation with impressive rhythmic sections. Asgard is based on a romantic Scandinavian story set against the backdrop of ancient Germanic myths...where the flowering landscape is always in that sweet-smelling season at the transition from spring to summer. Its fields resemble thick green grass (kept short by herds of dark red cows and woolly sheep) and its forests are home to countless deer and songbirds. All of this is protected by an insurmountable wall of stone blocks fitted together seamlessly. Without the grace of Odin, we would not be able to get in. Here Odin sits on his throne in the High Nest in Valhalla and looks down on all beings in his domain.
