Programme notes: A spring in the village square chats. Two boys sit down at the spring in the evening after work and start singing. At first they just hum a song, then the other young people come, and a choir sounds up, singing in turn. They begin to dance, a Slavic dance, a Kolo. But the joy and the entertainment do not last long. In the background horns sound and announce the approach of war. Horsemen come into the village. Need, suffering and misery come among the people (this is symbolized by a flugelhorn solo). Finally everything passes well, suffering and misery are over, and the spring chats again to this day.
