Johann Strauss thanked Auguste Delaunay de Villemessant by composing a very distinctive Polka française, which was given the title "Figaro Polka" and was also dedicated to the editor-in-chief. A piano reduction of the work was first published in the "Paris Magazine" on 28 July 1867. Two days later "Le Figaro" also published the Polka and at the same time the first performance took place at the concert in the "Cercle International".
