Programme notes: additional text

The "44th Regimental March" is a traditional and popular military march composed by the Austrian-Czech musician Josef Potužník (1882-1947). This march is an impressive example of the Austrian-Czech military music tradition and has secured a permanent place in the repertoire of wind orchestras and military bands since its creation. The march honors the Czech Infantry Regiment No. 44.

Josef Potužník was a respected composer and military bandmaster who made a name for himself primarily through his contributions to military music. After the end of the First World War, he initially led civilian brass bands before later becoming bandmaster of the Czech Infantry Regiment No. 44. Potužník's close connection to this regiment is reflected in the emotional depth of the march.
