Programme notes: The operetta "Light Cavalry" by Franz von Suppé and the arrangement for wind orchestra by Hans Kliment Franz von Suppé, a 19th-century composer, is best known for his light, entertaining operettas. One of his most famous works is the operetta "Light Cavalry", which premiered in 1866. Although the operetta itself is less well known today, its overture has a permanent place in the repertoire of many classical music ensembles and is particularly popular with wind orchestras. "Light Cavalry" is set in a rural setting and deals with the amorous entanglements and intrigues of the characters, which are portrayed humorously and with a wink. Suppé's music is lively, catchy and characterized by catchy melodies and rhythmic vitality.
