The
Burgenland
is a country of the Republic of Austria. The provincial capital is Eisenstadt. Of Austria's nine provinces, it is the easternmost and smallest in terms of population. The territory once belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary, which was obliged in the 1920 Treaty of Trianon to cede what was then German West Hungary to the new Republic of Austria. In 1921, the land seizure of Burgenland was completed; the newly added province was given the legally binding name Burgenland by the Federal Constitutional Act of 25 January 1921.
