Additional info/contents	People settled and founded a village in a vast, wooded country. But predatory tribes and the natural force of the sea posed a constant threat to the growing settlement. Over the course of history, the village had to be rebuilt again and again, but the residents were not discouraged. The “New Village” was created with magnificent houses, schools and churches. Prosperity and a rich community life developed. The past faded. Only festivals and fairs, which were often lively, reminded us of the distant old days. It was therefore no coincidence that the composer used the same musical theme to represent the turbulent times of the past and the atmosphere of the fairs. The composition “The New Village” was commissioned by the Province of North Holland for the 15th Niedorp Festival and was premiered on November 27, 1993. (© Rundel Musikverlag)
