Programme notes: additional text

The Polka francaise op.340 "Im Kahlenbergdörfl" is still one of the best-known melodies of the Viennese Wilhelminian period and represents the best old Austrian light music tradition.
In a new, contemporary instrumentation as lively "happy music" for wind orchestra, these melodies by Fahrbach have lost none of their original charm and fascinating verve. The indicated metronome tempo should only serve as a guide for the interpretation, although general tempo variations are quite possible. In this "happy music" variation, however, an extended percussion group and a saxophone register as full as possible should be taken into consideration. With a little stylistic feeling, it will surely come: the unclouded "happy-music" pleasure with Play Fahrbach.
