Additional info/contents Major Albert Fasce, head of the French Army's music department, wrote of Poème du Feu: Madame Ida Gotkovski's Poème du Feu is probably one of the original compositions for symphony orchestra that has been most successful in recent years. I have had to conduct this work in concerts with various orchestras, especially in Budapest, and each performance was greeted with enthusiastic applause. Moreover, it is quite rare in contemporary music to achieve simultaneous satisfaction of the musicians and success with the audience. This is significant. This great work is superbly written for wind instruments. There are no major technical difficulties, but the character of this work requires careful placement and a certain orchestral brilliance. In the first movement there is a 'key' which in a way represents the rhythmic genesis of the work. The metronome marking of the first movement should be strictly observed, and a correct interpretation of the accents and articulations is essential. The fortissimi and rallentandi should not be exaggerated. As for the little "trick", this lies in the execution of the sticks, which should be considered in two ways: the first is rhythmic for those that arise from rhythmic genesis, and the second is more melodic for those that arise in passages. Finally, to decipher the rhythmic origin of the sticks, one must proceed recursively, starting with the four sticks of the finale. These four sticks must be executed very rhythmically in the different bars. For the first, they arise: 1: from the second bar of the first movement 2: from the bar three bars before A for the second 3: from the bar of G to the fourth bar for the third. These sticks must be played rhythmically, but softening those three bars before A. All this is of great importance, because otherwise the entire execution is contrary to the spirit and rhythmic inspiration of the work. Moreover, this beautiful work could very well support a ballet. As Director of Radio Music, I must express our deepest gratitude to Madame Gotkovski for her contribution to the creation of a genuine repertoire for wind ensembles. This unique and sometimes underestimated orchestra has undreamed-of riches. This magnificent work is now in the repertoire of the Musique de l'Air de France.
