Programme notes: additional text

The "Prince Eugene of Savoy" is a historical figure who played a significant role in European history, especially in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. As a successful military leader and diplomat of the Habsburg Empire, Prince Eugene of Savoy achieved widespread fame and recognition for his battlefield exploits and political efforts.

The musical depiction of Prince Eugene of Savoy in music dates back to the 18th century. Many composers of the time were impressed by the prince's heroic deeds and his importance for European history and dedicated musical works to him.

One of the most famous examples is the "Prinz Eugen March" by Johann Strauss II. This march, composed in 1865, is a lively and stirring depiction of Prince Eugen's military successes and his heroic personality. The "Prinz Eugen Marsch" became one of Johann Strauss II's most popular pieces and remains an integral part of many orchestral repertoires and concert programs to this day.

In addition, Prince Eugene of Savoy also inspired other composers to create musical works. In the opera world, for example, you can find works that focus on Prince Eugene and his military victories. Some composers also wrote symphonic pieces or orchestral works dedicated to the prince and his contribution to European history.

The musical portrayal of Prince Eugene of Savoy in music reflects his legendary stature and importance as a prominent figure in European history. The powerful and heroic music honors his military brilliance and his legacy as one of the greatest generals of his time.
