Additional info/contents	The Singapura Suite was commissioned by Singapore's Ministry of Education Extracurricular Activities Branch (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, Singapore) as one of the required pieces for the 1999 Singapore Youth Festival. "Singapura" is the Malay name for the inhabitants of Singapore, the native language. Because Singapore is one of the world's most important ports, this two-part work opens with a seafaring dance. An authentic melody, Chan Mali Chan, is woven into the middle section of this first section, whose A-B-A form is emphasized by the repetition of the seafaring dance in a slightly modified form. Singapore is also a dynamic and vibrant city-state, and therefore the second section begins with a fitting dance, a fast bourrée. In contrast, a second authentic melody, Dayung Sampan, a very light, serene sailor's song, is played. This short but curious suite ends very exuberantly with a repetition of the beginning.
