Additional info/contents	Commissioned by the Netherlands Institute for Wind Music and the drum and show bands, with financial support from the 'Fonds voor de scheppende Toonkunst' (Foundation for Creative Music). Description: In this suite, we are transported to the 18th century, when a significant portion of musical life took place in the salons, the residences of princes and influential figures. A dance is being held, and we hear its musical interpretation in four short movements. 1. Entrance. After an opening fanfare, we witness the solemn reception of the guests. The music draws on several 17th-century principles, such as the use of echo dynamics. 2. Invitation to Dance. The guests proceed to the ballroom and are introduced to each other. This movement has a classical character. 3. Chiaconna. A solemn dance of Spanish origin in which a single theme continually recurs with different variations. 4. Danse Finale. A merry dance marks the guests' exit, but the celebration will undoubtedly have lasted longer than this suite.
