Additional info/contents	The William Byrd Suite, completed in 1923, is Jacob's most celebrated symphonic band composition. It was produced in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of William Byrd's death. The opening movement, "The Earl of Oxford's march", is a stately and dignified procession that grows incrementally to a resonant and energetic culmination. "Panava" is lyrical and slow, and reveals the colorful wonder of the wind palette. "Jhon, Come Kiss Me Now", is a set of seven variations on an eight-bar theme. Although vigorous and rhythmic, there is no dearth od gracious melodic gifts spoken in a legato voice. "The Mayden's Song" opens in a simple unison statements that convoöute into complex polyphonic textures. "Wolsey's Wilde", in compound meter, is lively and capricious and delights with contrasting episodes of grace and grit. "The Bells", in continous variation form, builds on a major second motive in the bass, adding permutations in the upper voices that culminante in a thrilling conclusion. Throughout the six movements, jacob treats Byrd's materials with gentlemany respect and affecion while delivering masterful orchestrations and colorful flourishes in satisfying abundance. William Byrd Suite, deserves is most esteemed post in the repertoire of the band.
