Programme notes: additional text

Contemporary composer Vicente Moncho's composition "De Tango" is an impressive work that pays homage to the rich heritage of Argentine tango. The piece, dedicated to the renowned conductor Frank Battisti, draws inspiration from the famous first bar of "La Cumparsita", one of Argentina's most famous tangos. Moncho creatively develops these motifs, which are strongly influenced by the rhythmic elements of tango, and thus creates a fascinating musical work.

"De Tango" is divided into three large sections, and despite this division the form has a certain freedom and openness. The composer takes the basic rhythm of the tango as a starting point and from there develops a rich range of musical ideas. The freedom of form allows Moncho to fully exploit the expressive possibilities of tango while at the same time presenting an individual artistic signature.

The decision to use the first bar of "La Cumparsita" as a starting point shows Moncho's respect for the tradition of Argentine tango. This iconic motif serves as the basis for the development of the piece and is processed in a variety of ways. Through the clever use of variations and extensions, "De Tango" becomes an independent composition that still retains the soul of tango.

The rhythm of the tango, present from the beginning, remains a central element throughout the composition. Moncho uses the specific rhythmic characteristics of tango to create a lively and captivating atmosphere. The motifs, which are derived from the basic theme, are cleverly developed and varied, creating a captivating musical texture.
