Programme notes: 'Jupiter' from the fourth movement 'Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity' from the suite 'The Planets' by the English composer Gustav Holst. Holst composed this piece between 1914 and 1916 for a large symphony orchestra, in the last movement Neptune a six-part women's choir is also used. This is late romantic programme music, which is similar in character to later large orchestral film music and whose effect on the listener is primarily due to the monumental sound effects and timbres of the orchestra.
