Programme notes: additional text

I. The power of the earth
In many cultures, the earth is regarded as the mother of all life and is the materialisation of divine spiritual power. It represents the most fundamental element of our life and is often associated with the beginning of all life processes.
Since the beginning of mankind, the effects and phenomena of the earth have been perceived by people. In all cultures, certain places have been specifically sought out in order to have closer contact with the divine wholeness of this world, to which a special effect has been attributed for thousands of years and which have been sought out as a source of energy.
This movement begins with the "St. Jacob motif", which was originally composed for the "Intrada 800" and is composed of the notes [es-d-a-g-b], which in turn are derived from the word St. Jacob, leads into the fanfare of the "Intrada 800", which appears here as the connection between "St. Jacob" and the "realm of forces", leads into the "earth theme" and finally ends again with the fanfare.

II The Devil's Stone Saga
The devil (from the Greek, diábolos, literally "the muddler" in the sense of "confounder, falsifier of facts, slanderer"; Latin diabolus) is regarded in various religions as an independent spiritual being. He plays a special role in Christian and Islamic theology as the personification of evil.
In folklore, the devil or "Deibel" is referred to in physical form as the incarnate. A horrible figure that triggers shivers in everyone. Precisely for this reason it exerts a fascination for the same.

III The power within us!
The measure of our psychic energy is determined by our thinking, feeling and acting. Feelings such as love, joy and anger often make people rise above themselves. Imagination also inspires us.
The power is in each of us. It is our energy that not only makes us achieve something, but also makes us act.
Through the power of these external energies and by trusting in themselves, people succeed in being strong enough to free themselves from the constraints of foreign powers and to confidently tread the path to both inner and outer freedom.
The orchestra hesitantly begins with motif fragments of the main theme, introduces the secondary theme and builds up to the main theme, which gains additional power through the change to the next key. The "St. James motif" is heard once more in the coda, thus closing the work as a whole.

St. Jakob im Walde is a municipality located in the southeastern part of Austria, in the state of Styria. The reference to "800 Jahre" or "800 years" likely marks a significant anniversary of the founding or dedication of a church, chapel, or other religious institution in the town dedicated to St. James.

St. James is a popular Christian saint who is often associated with pilgrimage and travel. Many churches and religious institutions throughout Europe are dedicated to him, and his feast day is celebrated on July 25th each year. St. Jakob im Walde is one of many towns in Austria and Germany that bear his name and have a connection to his legacy.
