Programme notes: additional text

Chrysanthemums are perennial, mostly herbaceous plants, but occasionally also woody dwarf shrubs at the base. The leaves are alternate, weakly to strongly pinnate, lobed or occasionally with entire margins.

The three-row Involucrum is more or less saucer-shaped, the Involucral leaves are broadly membranous or dark brown edged and lie on top of each other like roof tiles. The flower base is convex to slightly conical. The single-row ray flowers are female and fertile and have a white, pink or yellowish ligula. The hermaphroditic disk flowers are yellow, the tubular to cone-shaped tubes fivefold lobed, glandular and with unwinged corolla. The appendages at the base of the anthers are missing, those at the outer end are almost triangular.
