Programme notes: High above the Salzach valley, between the Tennen and Hagen mountains, stands the 900-year-old Hohenwerfen Castle. For centuries Hohenwerfen served as a prison. Even rulers such as Archbishop Adalbert III. (1198), Count Albert von Friesach (1253), the Styrian provincial governor Siegmund (1525) and Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau (1611) were held prisoner in this complex.
