Programme notes: additional text

In the autumn of 1887, 52-year-old Eduard Strauss performed his canter "Mit Extrapost" for the first time. The youngest of the Strauss brothers, generally known as "the beautiful EDI", had been at the head of the chapel since 1862 - initially alternating with Josef. In mid-October 1887, Eduard returned with the musicians from southern Germany and presented his new "Extrapost" at the first concert on October 23 at the Musikverein as a kind of travel souvenir.
