Programme notes: The Andreas Hofer March is a well-known composition by the Austrian composer Gustav Mahr. Composed in 1929, it quickly became popular in Austria and Germany. It is characterised by its strong, stirring melody and the prominent use of brass. The march is dedicated to Andreas Hofer, an important figure in Tyrolean history. Andreas Hofer was a patriot and leader of the Tyrolean uprising against the French and Bavarian troops during the Napoleonic Wars. He led a successful campaign against the occupying forces, but was eventually captured and executed in 1810.
