Bullfighting is a physical contest that involves a bullfighter and animals attempting to subdue, immobilize, or kill a bull, usually according to a set of rules, guidelines, or cultural expectations. There are several variations, including some forms which involve dancing around or leaping over a cow or bull or attempting to grasp an object tied to the animal's horns. The most well-known form of bullfighting is Spanish-style bullfighting, practiced in Spain, Portugal, Southern France, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Peru. The Spanish Fighting Bull is bred for its aggression and physique, and is raised free-range with little human contact.

After a soulful introduction, which already gives an idea of the temperamental nature of the piece with restrained trumpet signals, the first main theme is presented. It is followed by a calmly striding melody, reminiscent of a torero walking to his bullfight. A short transition (derived from the first theme) leads us to the second main theme, a romantic melody, soulfully played by the horn.
In a developmental interlude, the lyrical 2nd theme is subjected to some turbulence. Comparable to a romance, in which one also cannot do without upsets.
In the recapitulation, the main theme is heard again alongside the introductory theme. Both themes play together and are brought to an effective conclusion, in keeping with the character of the piece.
