Programme notes: Vitek's "Festive Ouverture in C" was composed in 1990 and dedicated to his mentor Professor Hans Schadenbauer, a colonel in the military and the former leader of Vienna's "Gardemusik". The Overture was awarded a composition prize by the Vorarlberg Wind Music Association, and was premièred by the province's youth wind orchestra in 1992. The composer himself calls the Overture an "attempt to write a hymn to the golden age of music, which slow middle section is filled with a soft yearning for this paradise lost". In any event, Vitek has succeeded marvellously in connecting remembrances of the grand musical past with his own personal ideas and feelings. Quelle/Source: Musikverlag Kliment
