Preface to Leopold Mozart's Kindersinfonie:

Old Papa Mozart once went -
Who doesn't know him, the master of lofty tones? -
Strolling through a Christmas market in Salzburg.
A colourful picture that could please a painter's eye, But also a noise, likely to hurt the artist's delicate ear.
In many stalls offered for sale
The merchants offered their wares for sale, which on Christmas Eve
To delight the expectant crowds of children,
And, to whet the shopping appetite,
They sample the instruments for sale.
There sounds in wild confusion
The cuckoo call, the quail call, the bugle call,
The gun shrieks, the drum rolls,
And the chirping of a nightingale
Mingles with the musicians' joyful sound.
But the wild noise does not arouse anger
To old Mozart, no, his friendly disposition
Sees the bright children's eyes already,
Who rejoice in the gifts on Christmas Day.
And because with him everything comes together in harmony,
So he went home and wrote the children's symphony.
You shall hear it now!
Though we are not artists,
As our Papa Mozart was,
So there is probably a false note.
But remember, even out there in the green forest
A young bird may peep by.
So don't be annoyed and give us your favour!
What unites us with Mozart is the love of our art.
