Programme notes: additional text

In 1864 the Tyrolean defence was reorganised. Landesschützen (Landwehrregimenter belonged to the K.u.K. army), Scharf or Standschützkompanien (were formed from the former Schützenkompanien), and the Landsturm. In 1871 the Tyrolean Landesschützen were transformed into a standing military unit with 10 battalions or 4th regiments. The Landsturm formed the reserve and comprised all reservists up to the age of 42. The companies of marksmen, now stand marksmen, remained voluntary, and with the decision of the provincial parliaments of Tyrol and Vorarlberg in 1874. Every citizen of Tyrol and Vorarlberg who had reached the age of 17 could become stand marksman. These registered marksmen, however, were independently of it, from 21-32 years of age conscripted to military service, and from 32-42 years of age landstorm-susceptible.
