Programme notes: additional text

This composition has only the title in common with traditional festive music. It is a first step towards introducing new tones to festive and celebratory music - provided that the appropriate external setting is available. Prinz takes a path of compromise. A melodious middle section "reconciles" with the somewhat more "daring" frame sections, namely the introduction, which is repeated at the end. One should not underestimate this festive music, even if it is described as "small". It certainly has some difficulties, including the repeated change of time signature.
Of course, the Kleine Festmusik is not only music for celebrations, it is also worthwhile to include it at the beginning of a sophisticated concert. Its selection as one of the compulsory pieces is proof of the versatility of this composition.
