Programme notes: With this fanfare, the composer has captured a trait of Austrian character, the joy of baroque splendour and broadly expansive formal fullness. The hymn-like, solemn middle section announces the softness of the landscape in the Danube valley. The recapitulation of the opening fanfare once again conveys a sonorous image of Austria, which in the thousand years of its existence has demonstrated energy, optimism and, above all, musical creativity on both traditional and new paths.
