Programme notes: additional text

Ried im Innkreis is not only the traditional district town in the Upper Austrian Innviertel, but is increasingly becoming a true Mecca for brass musicians and brass music lovers. Johann Hausl has also been inspired by the atmosphere of this town and especially its musicians. "Riedomania" is a resounding confession to this music-making Ried.
The work opens with a striking introduction of eight bars, which is repeated. The brass, flugelhorns, horns and trombones, first set the tone, then the trumpets join in and the second half of the introduction is played by the whole orchestra.
From the Dal Segno sign, the woodwinds introduce a rather romantic but thoroughly joyful and quite swinging theme. A rhythmically accentuated melody from the trumpet stands out in contrast, surrounded by interjections from the horns and saxophones.
After the repetition of this theme, the melody-leading instrument changes, the tenors set the tone for the time being, and the new melodic idea is continued and modified in a very pleasing and sensitive manner in the individual registers of the orchestra, such as trumpets and saxophones, and also loosened up rhythmically, in order to then prepare the "Andante".
This "Andante" is particularly weightless and airy, also quite transparent in the instrumentation; here, sensitive music-making can be brought out in the best way. The theme is of vocal expressiveness, rather simple, but in any case dreamy and soulful in a special way.
Now the joyful theme is heard again after the introduction (Dal Segno), which leads into a short but very striking coda, which knows how to conclude the work effectively.
The lively and rhythmically modern work is symphonic wind music, which also has an entertaining character. It is therefore a composition that is suitable for every concert, can also be performed outdoors and can be an essential enrichment of the programme for bands from a good intermediate level upwards. Riedomania can also be used as festive and lively introductory music for festivities and celebrations.
