Programme notes: additional text

In 1896, the Luxembourg military music was to be reorganised according to the Austrian model and Edmund Patzke was entrusted with this task. Patzke was appointed military bandmaster in Luxembourg on 1 January 1897. In addition, he also trained music students. His numerous performances at the parade ground as well as the subscription concerts made him very popular in Luxembourg. Due to his successes, Patzke was appointed Royal Luxembourg Court Kapellmeister with effect from 1 January 1899. Edmund Patzke's most successful work became the march Salut à Luxembourg ("Greetings to Luxembourg"), which is still popularly played today.
