Programme notes: additional text

Hans Hütten is a good frien to the fanfarenorchester "Carl-Zeiss-Jena" since a long time. For this band he wrote many different arrangements and some compositions too.
In connection witha training-camp for the musicians in Trassenheide (Usedom) the composition Saxonia - Blues was created. It seemes, that the name comes from the instrument saxophon, but really it is the latin word "Saxonia", which means the country Sachsen.
In this time the musicians from Jena liked to play music by the Beatles, ABBA and other groups of this kind. Therefore Hütten wanted to write a composition in this stile, a little bit of "Pop". He composed a suite in four movements, the second movement is the Saxonia - Blues.

The Saxonia is the female symbolic figure and secular patron saint of Saxony. She appears as a personified allegory for the state of Saxony in various forms and shapes (compare also Berolina, Bavaria and Megalopolis). Saxonia is depicted, for example, on the mural created in 1896 by Anton Dietrich on majolica panels on the gable of the Elbe side of the Saxon Ministry of Finance in Dresden on the Neustädter Elbufer. This shows Saxonia collecting money from various trades and spending money on building measures, art, education and more. A gilded Saxonia figure by Johannes Schilling stands on the tower of the Saxon Estates House.
