Programme notes: additional text

The march "Stets munter (5er Regimentsmarsch)" by Franz Hoffmann is an example of the deep connection between music and military tradition. As an Austrian military bandmaster and composer, Franz Hoffmann created a piece with this march that not only captures the characteristic features of a march, but also reflects the mood and spirit of a unit.

Franz Hoffmann's musical career began early, when he received his first music lessons on the violin at the age of eight. His experiences as a musician and drum major in Infantry Regiment No. 34 shaped his musical development. Later he studied at the Vienna Conservatory and continued to gain valuable experience in various regimental bands.

The march "Stets munter" is also known as the "5 Regiment March" because it is dedicated to the military music of the Hungarian Infantry Regiment No. 5 in Eger, where Franz Hoffmann served as Kapellmeister from 1901 to 1918. The choice of the title "Stets munter" not only conveys a mood of open-mindedness and energy, but also reflects the character and mentality of a military unit. The music of this march is characterised by catchy melodies, rhythmic motifs and powerful passages. The recognisability of the melodies makes the march a popular piece in the wind band literature. The dynamics and orchestral effects that Hoffmann skilfully uses enhance the effect of the music and give it depth and sonority.
